Wicklow’s Historic Gaol

Wicklow Gaol is an unforgettable journey through an original prison building, telling the stories of the men, women and children imprisoned here under British rule over two centuries of turbulent history.

Suitable for all the family, the fully-engaging audio-visual experience features holographic appearances of the Gaoler and characters from the prison who share their stories of the times.

Day Tour

Meet Mary Morris the Matron, for a picture of daily life in a Victorian prison. The gruff Gaoler will escort you to your prison cell before boarding the convict ship HMS Hercules for a rough voyage to the New World. Enjoy the atmosphere of one of Ireland’s most historic buildings. You’ll be sure to bump into some famous faces along the way. Just be polite to the Gaoler – you might have to stay!

Night Tour

Wicklow Gaol was, for many years, a place of horrendous atrocities in which prisoners were subjected to torture, starvation and death. Join this special night tour to see the site for yourself. Led by professional actors in period costume, you’ll be lucky to escape!

Gates of Hell Tour

This fully immersive seated experience will transport visitors back in time to Wicklow Gaol in the 1700’s – a grim 3-dimensional world of corruption, rebellion & dark dungeons. Some of the Gaol’s most notorious prisoners will feature & there may even be a guest appearance from one of the Haunted Gaol’s famous ghosts!
