The Pit & Pendulum – Review

I had been wanting to write this The Pit & Pendulum review for a while and this weekend I got the chance.

Named after the Edgar Allen Poe short story, The Pit & the Pendulum, this pub set over two levels has stunning décor and furniture, although some of the seat covers are a bit worse for wear but this must be expected when your clientele is fond of a studded belt. The walls are adorned with grotesques, there are portraits of zombies and even a hidden werewolf waiting to startle you

We had arrived at the pub a little earlier than anticipated but the staff were very accommodating and were able to shift our booking forward without issue, we ordered drinks at the bar and Beck’s Blue in hand we headed down the stairs past a framed portrait of the man himself and we opt for a table with a high backed, arched, red leather banquette and set about perusing the menu.

I went for the Nachos from the light bites’ menu, these were good, better than most pub nachos, the toppings were plentiful, the salsa was the standard pub offering but the fact that they had layered the nachos properly with cheese between the layers made up for that

My partner had 10 chicken wings with sweet chili sauce, crushed poppadom, and spring onion, he opted for this as it was something he hadn’t seen on a menu before and he wasn’t disappointed, these were good size wings, well coated in sauce and the crunchy toppings brought a nice texture to the dish

All in all, the food is good, the music is great and there is a secret door in the wall. What more could you ask for
