Upon our arrival in York, we couldn’t help but notice the city’s abundance of ghost tours, with four groups being led through the streets by men in top hats as we made our way to meet our own guide. The Deathly Dark Tours caught our attention, particularly as we had enjoyed a virtual experience during lockdown and felt it was only fitting to encounter the tour in person.
Our guide, the charismatic Dr Dorian Deathly proved to be a master of both group management and comedic performance. Despite the initially daunting size of our sold-out tour, Dr. Deathly skillfully herded us with the finesse of a seasoned people wrangler. Early on, he won us over with his affectionate treatment of a member of our group who needed a bit of extra consideration and, hilariously, with his efficient dispatching of freeloaders.
The adventure took an unexpected turn when, at our first stop, we witnessed a real bloodbath—Dr. Deathly’s nose decided to join the paranormal party and started bleeding. Alas, not a scripted part of the show, but Dr. Deathly handled it like a pro, stuffing some toilet paper in there and soldiering on. A true performer!
Amidst the winding streets and chilling tales, we found ourselves at the majestic Minster, where we enjoyed the architectural splendor while being regaled with a bone-chilling story. Dr. Deathly, the master storyteller, even threw in a clever and creepy prop for good measure. The snow began to fall earnestly, adding an extra layer of eerie ambiance to our ghostly gathering.
As the temperature dropped, so did our numbers, but like true aficionados of the eerie, we stuck it out. And oh, were we rewarded! Dr. Deathly spun tales of arson, murder, cryptids, and insanity with a perfect mix of flair and enthusiasm. It became clear that Deathly adored York, declaring The Shambles the most beautiful street in the world, and honestly, who were we to argue with a man who just survived a nosebleed like a champ?
In the end, our Deathly Dark Tour was a memorable blend of spine-tingling stories, unexpected mishaps, and the undeniable charm of Dr. Dorian Deathly. If you find yourself in York craving a ghostly escapade, this tour is a must-do. After all, where else can you witness a supernatural nosebleed and still leave with a smile on your face? Cheers to Deathly Dark Tours for an unforgettable evening of frights and delights!
