Sharmanka was founded by sculptor-mechanic Eduard Bersudsky and theatre director Tatyana Jakovskaya in St.Petersburg (Russia) and moved to Scotland in mid-90s. With an extensive record of national and international tours and exhibitions, audiences in many countries have been fascinated by Sharmanka’s magic. Its dynamic shows are layered with cross-cultural stories, full of multi-sensory experience and loved across all generations.
Consistently, it offers guests captivating displays of theatrical phantasmagoria. Within these shows, Bersudsky’s intricate mechanical creations come to life accompanied by haunting music, narrating stories from the enigmatic history of Communist Russia. With the activation of each finely detailed piece, myriad tiny monsters and people engage in the process—turning cranks, riding gears—while larger components set the entire scene in motion. Each assembled tower and fantastical airship emerges as a miniature living universe in its own right.
