Named after Wallace J. Williamson, the Old Hospital on College Hill in the City of Williamson opened on March 3rd, 1928, replacing the original structure destroyed in a 1926 fire. Funded by bonds sold to local business owners, the 50-bed facility served as a state-of-the-art hospital for 60 years, with departments distributed across its floors.
In 1979, it was sold to Hospital Managements Association, Inc., operational until 1988 when a new facility was constructed nearby. The old hospital underwent renovations, serving as physicians’ offices for 26 years and then used for storage from 2014.
In 2018-2019, paranormal tours, organized by Williamson Memorial Hospital and Tug Valley Area CVB, attracted thousands to explore the building. Actor Tony Moran, known as the original Michael Myers, participated in 2019. In late 2020, a private investor acquired the facility, aiming to open it year-round.
In 2021, the Old Hospital on College Hill reopened to the public, hosting both paranormal and historic tours, marking a new chapter in its storied history.
