We all know that M Night Shyamalan can be hit and miss so I sat down to watch this apocalyptic horror with some trepidation. Adapted from the bestseller The Cabin at the End of the World by Paul Tremblay the story follows a family having to make a terrible choice to stop the apocalypse and save the world.
Faced by four strangers who have been having visions the film takes place largely in a remote cabin and there are some amazing performances, Dave Bautista, who I had previously not given enough credit to is fantastic, I had some trouble believing him as a 2nd grade teacher but I think that’s more down to my lack of ability to suspend disbelief than his acting skills. The opening scene between Bautista and Kristen Cui has some fantastic dialogue and sets the tense tone from the start. Cui is incredible throughout.
Although I found the ending predictable to story along the way wasn’t and ultimately it was an enjoyable film, some shocking moments without being a gorefest.
