Jonathan Ross’ Myths & Legends on More4 shows a lifelong lover of all things creepy and weird taking in the length and breadth of the country, and learning about local lore, myths and legends stories and fantasy mythical creatures.
Episode one sees Jonathan visiting Yorkshire and Lancashire, throughout the 47-minute episode we meet a number of local experts, authorities and unique characters whose inclusion is excellent, giving us knowledge from genuinely passionate people while providing Jonathan someone to riff off, but he is respectful throughout, never using these folk tales as comedy fodder.
In this first episode of four, we meet Mother Shipton and learn about famous mythological creatures such as little cream-loving, cave-dwelling Hobs, Dobby elves who protect crops and malicious Sprites, all interspersed with beautiful graphics, animations and CGI that really help to bring the stories to life for the viewer.
The show is hugely interesting, informative and fun to watch, with scientific experiments, visits to local eateries, ceremonies and traditions and the promise of Michael Sheen joining Ross for a trip to Wales in the next episode, which is more than enough to keep me watching.
