Daisy Chain follows the story of DCI Kath Fortune and her newly minted cold case unit, working to solve the decade old murder of a five year old girl.
This is Julia Vaughan‘s first novel and it shows some real promise, some nice well rounded characters and an unorthodox reveal early on in the book shows a writer who means business. Our protagonist Kath is a refreshing break from the norm for a crime novel, a strong female lead but one we all know, hints of Catherine Cawood in her but maybe that’s Happy Valley still in my mind.
I found some of the dialogue unconvincing “Take the weight off your arse” was said as an invitation to sit down which I don’t think is a phrase, at least one I hadn’t heard before, and some of the police procedure didn’t ring true to my somewhat limited knowledge
The use of psychic Lane Petreus was great, a little twist of woo which is always a plus from me.
